Recently in one of my re-reads I found an indication that the century after the Century of the Fruitbat is the Century of the Rat. And now of course I can't remember where I saw it but I belive it was mentioned by the Patrician. Or maybe a wizard. But yesterday in my first re-read of Going Postal it is mentioned that this is the Century of the Anchovy....
So what century is this?
So what century is this?

Re: What Century?`
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 12:51 PMSince the books aren't always written in chronological order, it's difficult to tell.
I think I recall a phrase from one of the books, "kicking and screaming into the Century of the Fruitbat"... implying, perhaps, that the Century of the Fruitbat is the next century, but not the one the books are taking place in? -

Re: What Century?`
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 1:30 PMThe century of the Fruitbat ENDED six years ago. That was the joke. The Century of the Rat was referred to as the "next" century in one of the earlier books, the Anchovy in one of the more recent.
I blame the Editors.
Or was that the Auditors. -

Re: What Century?`
Fri, March 10, 2006 - 1:59 PMMy mistake. Whichever book that was in, I ought to re-read it...
Aha. According to wiki.lspace.org/index.php/...world_Stuff , you're right. The Century of the Fruitbat would have ended, and the Century of the Anchovy just begun.
I've no idea what the Century of the Rat could be, though. -

Re: What Century?`
Sat, October 20, 2007 - 12:19 PMWell now that it has been mentioned in two books "inna row" I can rest easy knowing that the next 93 years are to be considered the Century of the Anchovy. -

Re: What Century?`
Mon, October 22, 2007 - 1:05 PMSome days I wonder if he deliberately tinkers with the continuity - there were some weird "centuries" flipping in and out early.
Did anyone else catch that C.M.O.T. now has an actual name beyond Cut Me Own Throat? -

Re: What Century?`
Tue, December 4, 2007 - 4:48 PMWell, I seriously doubt that Mr. and Mrs. Dibbler would've named their son Cut Me Own Throat... Unless he had an uncle named "You're Killing Me Here" or an auntie "Not On Your Life, Buster"
I miss Century of the Fruitbat...it was a good turn -

Re: What Century?`
Tue, December 4, 2007 - 5:26 PMOriginally his name was 'lost in the seas of antiquity' or somesuch - he had another name, but everyone knows him by CMOT and has for so long that it's stated that he himself forgot the name.
And in a fictional world with Bestiality Carter lurking in the wings, "You're Killing Me Here" Duncan isn't too far off :) -
